Start here

One language, several very different reasons.

Italian is learned for love, and used for life.

The Italian a buyer in Puglia needs is not the Italian a sixth-former needs in May. We start by working out which one you are after, then match a tutor from our network who teaches that well.

Examinations we prepare for in Italian: GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and IB Italian, and the CILS and CELI certifications. See Italian exam preparation.

  • There is a house, or a plan for one

Buying, renovating or retiring in Italy runs on conversations with builders, notaries and neighbours. That is a specific Italian, and it can be taught directly.

  • Citizenship or residency paperwork

Several routes require certified language evidence. We prepare for the examinations rather than hoping general lessons cover it.

  • You work in design, food, fashion or art

Whole industries still run in Italian. Reading a supplier's email properly changes the commercial relationship.

  • You simply love it

The most common reason of all, and a perfectly good one. Enjoyment is why people keep going, and keeping going is what produces fluency.

What we offer

Four ways to learn Italian with us.

Choose the route that matches what you are trying to achieve — the format follows from the goal, not the other way round.

  1. Private Italian lessons

One specialist, matched from our network, and a programme written around your goal.

Private Italian tuition in London or online, at any level. Your specialist is matched from the Italian teachers already selected into our network, you meet them on a chemistry call, and the programme is built from what you actually need to do in Italian.

    From £64/hr

Flexi £75/hr for 4 hours (£300); Mastery £64/hr for 48 hours used within up to 12 months (£3,060). VAT included.

  2. Italian group classes

Ten-week terms, never more than six people in the room.

Structured, conversation, business and exam groups in Italian, live in Central London and online, Tuesdays to Thursdays. Levels run from complete beginner through to advanced.

Entry point: the B1–B2 conversation club. 10 × 90-minute sessions — 15 teaching hours — per learner. VAT included. Structured courses £790–£910, group exam preparation £950.

  3. Italian exam preparation

Technique for the paper in front of you, not general fluency.

Preparation built backwards from the exam date and the specification your school or institution actually follows, with a tutor who knows the mark scheme.

    From £89/hr

Private preparation £105/hr for 4 hours, £89/hr for 48 hours used within up to 12 months. Group exam terms £950 for ten weeks.

  4. Business Italian

Language that holds up in the meeting, not just the lesson.

Programmes for executives and teams, scheduled around real diaries, with progress reporting for whoever is sponsoring the training.

    From £120/hr

Executive one-to-one from £120/hr on 4 hours (£480), £102/hr on 48 hours used within up to 12 months (£4,896); open business group terms from £950 per person for ten weeks. VAT included.

Why Learn&Co is different

"Everyone comes to language learning for a reason — but what keeps people going is how it makes them feel. Seen. Capable. Connected. That's what we create at Learn&Co."
Maria Toubbe, founder of Learn&CoMaria ToubbeCEO & Founder, Learn&Co

Life in the language

Italian is inseparable from where it is spoken.

Food, family, region and history are not decoration around the grammar — they are the content of the language. Your tutor brings them in from the first lesson, because that is how Italian is actually used.

  • Regional Italy, honestly

Standard Italian in the lesson, with enough of the north and south that real conversations do not surprise you.

  • Conversation from the start

Structured speaking practice in every lesson. Italians will meet you halfway; you need enough to start.

  • Culture as material

Cookery, cinema, football or opera — the practice material is chosen from what you already care about.

Beyond the lesson

Italian, lived rather than studied.

Italian is learned properly at a table, in a market and in an argument about how long the pasta should have been in the water. Two Learn&Co routes take you to Italy itself: a week of immersion for adults, and curated trips and exchanges for schools.

Italian Immersive Retreats

A week in Italy where nobody switches to English out of politeness.

Structured mornings with your tutor, then afternoons and evenings that are simply Italian life: the alimentari, the passeggiata, a kitchen where you are handed a knife and expected to keep talking. Buyers, renovators and lapsed learners all come home speaking differently.

School trips & exchanges

Italy as the classroom — Rome, Florence, Bologna or the Veneto.

Partner-school exchanges and study trips built with heads of MFL: art, history and food used as language work rather than sightseeing, with host families, safeguarding, risk assessment and pastoral care handled end to end.

The Learn&Co method

A selected network first. Your match, second.

We do not go looking for a Italian tutor once you enquire. The selection has already happened: our network is built slowly, from specialists we have interviewed, observed and chosen to work with — for their teaching, not simply their passport.

What happens after your enquiry is the second layer. Maria listens first — your goal, your level, your temperament, your timetable — and then chooses the specialist inside that network who fits the brief. You meet them on a chemistry call before anything is committed, and the programme is written around your life from there.

The Good Schools Guide badgeOur tutor matching is reviewed by The Good Schools Guide.

Book a discovery call
  • A network selected before you arrive

Italian specialists we have already interviewed, referenced and chosen — vetted for teaching skill, subject depth and the ability to adapt.

  • A conversation before a tutor

Maria hears the brief first — what you need Italian for, by when, and how you like to learn.

  • Matched from the network

The specialist inside the network who suits your goal, level and temperament is named to you, with Maria overseeing the match — no rota, no algorithm, no directory to scroll.

  • A chemistry call, then oversight

You meet the tutor before anything is booked. Progress reports, founder check-ins and rematching if the fit ever stops working.

Before you book

Learning Italian — your questions, answered.

How quickly can I hold a conversation?
Most adults having weekly private lessons and doing a little between them are managing short, real conversations within a few months. Immersion accelerates this more than anything else.
Do you offer Italian group classes?
Yes — ten-week terms in Central London and online, from beginner through to advanced, with no more than six people in a group.
Do you prepare for CILS?
Yes, alongside GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and IB Italian. Preparation is planned backwards from the sitting.
Do you run Immersive Retreats in Italy?
We do. A week of structured mornings and genuinely Italian afternoons moves most adults further than a term of lessons.
How quickly will I be able to talk to my in-laws, neighbours or colleagues?
Italian is generous early on. Adults having weekly lessons and using a little between them are usually managing short, real conversations within a few months, and a week of immersion moves that faster than anything else.
Do you teach children and teenagers?
Yes, from primary age upwards, including GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and IB Italian with tutors who know the specifications.
Can I learn Italian for citizenship or residency?
Yes. We prepare candidates for the CILS and CELI certificates commonly required, planning backwards from the sitting date and the level you actually need.
How do you choose my tutor?
Maria hears what you need Italian for, then matches you with a specialist Italian tutor from our network. You meet them on a chemistry call before you commit.
